Capability assessment

In our initial and ongoing engagement with clients, we are invariable involved in the process of assessing current talent capabilities, identifying key capability gaps and then designing solutions to bridge these gaps. As a result of our wide experience and expertise in managing learning, we are also able to assist clients to assess the capability of their own learning and development functions, evaluate the competency of internal facilitators and trainers and provide train the trainer activities to raise standards.

Our key capability assessment methods include:

Capability audit

Using a combination of 1:1 dialogues, work observation, self-assessment and feedback tools, we can undertake a through Capability Assessment of a strategic business unit. Such a Capability Assessment would take as its start point the stated strategy and goals of the business and examine the degree to which the capability and talent exists within the business unit to achieve these goals. The outcome of the audit would then be series of prioritised recommendations on how to bridge any capability gaps.

Training need analysis

At an individual and team level we use a variety of similar techniques to identify the specific skill and training needs of a particular group of individuals in order then to plan and design learning activities to follow.

The Directors of the TNO have many years of experience in managing learning and development functions in large organisations and can therefore provide valuable insight and know-how in how to better align and manage L&D functions to deliver excellent strategic value in line with the business’s core commercial goals. As a specific service to our clients we provide a comprehensive review of the complete L&D function examining all processes, services and people capability issues and provide a complete costed series of recommendations on changes required to the L&D function to achieve a more robust alignment with the business and deliver greater value.

Assessing facilitator & trainer capability

As either a sub-set of a wider Learning & Development Review or as a stand alone activity, we are often invited by clients to appraise the capabilities of internal facilitators & trainers and provide recommendations on a learning & development plan to enhance these capabilities.

Developing learning & development capability

In support of transferring skills and building internal development capability, we provide specific development activities for our clients personnel. Using our own competency ladder for learning & development specialists, we assess and build capability through the following key stages of competency:
